Brachioplasty surgery details

Dr. Bauer performs arm lift surgery with the patient under general anesthesia. He will make an incision underneath the arm that reaches from elbow to armpit. (Depending on the specific case, this scar may be hidden; this can be discussed during your consultation.) From the incision, excess skin will be removed and the remaining skin will be tightened. The skin that is left behind will beautifully fit the new contour of the arms. The incisions will then be closed with sutures. The surgery usually takes 2 to 4 hours to complete. Liposuction is often combined with a brachioplasty to achieve optimal results, but this will also be discussed during your consultation.

Recovery

The majority of arm lift patients require 1 to 2 weeks off of work and regular activities. You may need to wear compression garments on your arms to help reduce swelling, and drains may also be placed to help collect fluid (about 3 to 4 days). As with any surgery, swelling, bruising, and some discomfort are to be expected during recovery. Swelling usually peaks at 2 to 3 days post-surgery, and from there will subside over the course of 10 to 14 days.

Elevating your arms may help reduce the swelling. While weight training will eventually help you get the most out of your arm lift procedure, it’s important to avoid exercise of any kind until Dr. Bauer gives you clearance to do so. Most patients need someone to help assist them during the first couple days after arm lift surgery.
