According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the amount of aesthetic services for men has more than doubled over the past two decades. This is not surprising, as many procedures are now quick, convenient, and achieve exceptional results. Whether the area of concern is a weak chin, signs of aging around the eyes, hair loss, or anything else, we have plenty of options and an outstanding team to help get you on your way to looking and feeling better.

FAQ

Who is a good candidate?

If you’re unhappy with an area of your face and/or body and you’re interested in improving it, good for you. Once you improve the area(s) you have an issue with, you’ll feel more confident and better about yourself. Men who make ideal candidates for cosmetic procedures are those who want a change in their appearance, but have realistic expectations for what the procedure can accomplish.

Are the procedures performed differently for men than for women?

While the technique for male procedures may be similar to those of female procedures, it’s important to select a plastic surgeon with an artist’s eye and plenty of experience in order to keep the features masculine. A good surgeon will also understand the many nuances of the male body — for example, men have stronger facial muscles with more mass than women have, and different hairlines must also be considered.

What will healing be like?

Many of our male patients are concerned with the healing process after an aesthetic procedure. Unlike females, most men don’t wear makeup that can camouflage bruising, but at the same time, they want to get back to work as quickly as possible. However, recovery time after any procedure is very important both for results and for healing. During your consultation, we will give you an estimate of how long it will take to recover, as well as details about what to avoid and steps to take to help the process go smoothly.

Surgical procedures

Dr. Raggio and Dr. Cawthon perform surgical facial procedures for men that leave no sign that the patient has been “worked on”. Results are natural-looking, and incisions are well hidden. Dr. Bauer provides body-focused procedures such as tummy tuck and liposuction for fat removal.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty (a nose job) is the most popular aesthetic surgery for males. Whether your nose was broken and needs to be corrected or you simply dislike your nose’s size or shape, rhinoplasty has the ability to achieve a natural-looking, attractive, masculine appearance.

Facelift

A facelift freshens the face, removing excess sagging skin and providing an overall younger, more attractive look. Dr. Raggio is an outstanding facial plastic surgeon who understands exactly how to perform a facelift on the male face. They take into consideration the thickness of the skin, underlying muscles, and specific bone structure to deliver optimal results.

Eyelid lift

One of the biggest aesthetic concerns for men is aging eyes: under-eye circles and bags, puffy lids, and wrinkles. An eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) can reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate the eye area by improving these issues. Incisions are well concealed, and we preserve a masculine appearance by never over-doing the procedure. The goal is “youthful yet masculine”.

Brow lift

With age, the forehead can become heavier and may bring on a “resting face” that appears angry, sad, or tired. This can be a problem for many men who would prefer a more friendly, alert, youthful appearance. A brow lift (forehead lift) re-positions the brow to its original position in order to reduce the heavy appearance, tighten the skin, reduce wrinkles in the area, and open up the eyes.

Otoplasty

For men who are bothered by their overly large ears or ears that protrude from the head, otoplasty (ear surgery) is an excellent option. Although it is a surgery, it’s a relatively simple procedure that can make a huge difference in both confidence and quality of life.

Neck lift

No one wants a double chin or a turkey neck. Even for men who are in great shape, this problem can add weight (and age) to your entire appearance. A neck lift targets sagging skin, excess fat, and lack of definition in the jaw or chin to restore a more defined and sculpted neck and profile.

Chin and jaw enhancement

There are certain features that, quite simply, have always been associated with masculinity. A strong, sculpted jawline and a square chin are hallmarks of male attractiveness, which is why chin and jaw surgery are so popular. This procedure can make a significant difference for men with a “weak” chin or jowls, improving the profile, neck, and overall facial appearance.

Hair restoration

One of the biggest areas of concern for men is hair loss. Male pattern baldness affects millions of men, and it’s an issue that can have a very negative impact on self-esteem. Fortunately, there are many options to treat hair loss. At Alabama Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we offer both the FUT and FUE hair transplant methods; PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRFM (platelet-rich fibrin) treatments; hairline advancement/forehead shortening; transplant for beards and facial hair, and medical-grade restoration medications. No matter what stage of loss your hair is in, it’s likely that we can help.

Injectables

It’s truly remarkable what cosmetic injectables can accomplish. Especially for men who only want minor improvements, injectables can go a long way. They also offer less cost and downtime than surgery and can be done in a quick in-office appointment, making them an ideal option for busy individuals. Another non-surgical option we offer is laser treatments for skin resurfacing and other issues of the skin.

The most proven cosmetic injectable in the world, Botox® is used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles of the face — most commonly horizontal forehead lines, vertical lines between the brows, and crow’s feet.

Dermal fillers have the ability to camouflage the signs of aging on the face, such as wrinkles and hollow areas. They can be used to address a few trouble spots, or they can be used as a more comprehensive treatment such as non-surgical rhinoplasty, a liquid facelift, or jawline enhancement.

Kybella® is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps break down fat. When injected into the excess skin under the chin, this product greatly reduces a double chin.
