What are hand rejuvenation treatments?

With age, the hands lose quite a lot of collagen and elastin, which results in the skin becoming much thinner. When this happens, the visibility of the tendons, veins, and bones becomes much more prominent, making the hands look older. The dermal fillers Restylane® Lyft and Radiesse® are excellent options to address this issue, as they effectively deliver volume and plumpness to the backs of the hands.

Restylane Lyft

  • FDA-approved for hand rejuvenation
  • Hyaluronic acid based
  • Is made with lidocaine for more comfortable injections

Radiesse

  • FDA-approved for hand rejuvenation
  • Made from calcium hydroxyapatite,
  • May be a less comfortable treatment than Restylane Lyft

Hand rejuvenation treatment details

Before treatment, the backs of your hands will be numbed to help minimize discomfort. Once you’re properly numbed, the dermal filler will be injected in one of the following ways:

  • Multiple injections in small amounts, placed between the tendons
  • One large injection in the center of the hand, followed by massage by your specialist to “direct” the product

Recovery and results

There is no downtime with hand rejuvenation, and patients will be able to resume their regular activities. You may experience mild swelling and bruising for a few days. Results last for 6 to 10 months, at which point you can return for maintenance treatments.
