Nose surgery experts in Montgomery, AL

Cosmetic rhinoplasty addresses aesthetic concerns of the nose. It surgically alters the cartilage, bone, skin, or all of these to achieve a more attractive, balanced nose. Because it’s directly at the center of the face, the nose is a very prominent feature — and therefore, imperfections are more easily seen. For this reason, many individuals choose to undergo rhinoplasty in Montgomery AL to correct these issues.

What can rhinoplasty address?

  • A bulbous tip
  • A too-wide nose
  • Disproportion
  • Overly large nostrils
  • Crooked nose
  • Big or flat nose
  • Upturned nasal tip
  • Deviated septum
  • Dorsal hump
  • Bump on the nasal bridge
  • Drooping of the nasal tip

Does insurance cover rhinoplasty?

Sometimes health insurance will pay for rhinoplasty (or part of it) if the patient is having breathing problems and it’s discovered that they have a deviated septum or other condition. We will be able to detect if you have conditions such as these during your consultation. When a nose job is strictly cosmetic, it’s not covered by insurance; however, offer financing through CareCredit®.

FAQ

Will I be able to drive myself home after nose surgery?

You will need to arrange for a ride home after your rhinoplasty because of the anesthesia that will be used.

Can I blow my nose after nose surgery?

No. Avoid blowing your nose for two weeks post-surgery to reduce risk of nosebleeds. To clear the nasal passageways, we recommend a nasal rinse.

What is the best age to have a rhinoplasty done?

Rhinoplasty can be beneficial for almost any age, as long as the patient has thought long and hard about it, and feels confidence in their decision. Technically, a nose job can be performed on anyone as long as their nose has finished developing. For girls, this is approximately age 16. For boys, it is approximately age 17. We see younger patients in their 20s often have greatly improved confidence and quality of life after rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty surgical details

Rhinoplasty is performed with the patient under either local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia. The choice of anesthesia will be determined by the complexity of the surgery, and will be discussed during your consultation. Another topic of conversation during your consultation will be whether you will have an open rhinoplasty or a closed rhinoplasty.

Open Rhinoplasty

In an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made in the columella (the strip of tissue between your nostrils). The scar from this incision heals in such a way that it is almost entirely invisible. An open rhinoplasty is often chosen for patients who need more complex changes, as it allows better visualization of the nasal anatomy. This technique often gives the surgeon more precise control.

Closed Rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty is also called a “scarless” rhinoplasty because the incisions are made inside the nostrils, which means that no scars are left on the skin’s surface. A closed technique isn’t recommended for extensive corrections to the nose tip or the nasal bridge. It’s more appropriate for patients who only need a hump reduction and minor tip work.

What to expect

Day of appointment to 2 weeks

You will arrive for your appointment and get checked in. Once ready, you will receive anesthesia, have your surgery, and return home. You will most likely simply want to rest and take it easy for the remainder of the day. A splint will be placed on your nose, and it’s very important to sleep with your head elevated above your heart.

After one week, any congestion will be getting better. You will visit us for your first follow-up appointment, and the splint can now be removed. Swelling will peak at about three days, but will be mostly subsided by the end of week one. Most patients will be able to go back to work a little over one week after nose surgery in Montgomery A L.

At two weeks, the majority of uncomfortable congestion will be subsided, and swelling will be greatly reduced. For some patients, there will be temporary residual swelling, with minor bruising lingering.
